The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has handed over the first tranche of subvention to the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and to five of the six municipalities.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Collin Croal today, during a press conference at the ministry disclosed that a total of $97.5M has been paid out to the 65 NDCs and $22.5M to the municipalities of Anna Regina, Rose Hall, New Amsterdam, Corriverton and Linden.
Meanwhile the Ministry, thus far has awarded 40 percent of its capital budget and the regions, about 30 of their capital programme.
The PS explained that most of the regions have disbursed their advance mobilisation payments for several contracts. He said as well that there are currently several awards being made at the National Procurement Tender Administration Board, as such the percentage of awarded contracts will move steadfastly during the month of September.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud also advised that the regions’ 2014 budget preparations are moving smoothly and that all the regions have met the Ministry of Finance’s August 19 deadline for the submission of estimates for Budget 2014.
He said that these estimates have gone through a lengthy scrutiny procedure at the level of the regions and the central ministries, with regards to the different work programmes.
